Yurr – Let’s Talk Beat Licensing (The Smart Way)

If you’re an artist, you’ve probably been on YouTube or BeatStars scrolling through beats, you're feeling one — then boom, you see “Lease for $30” or “Exclusive for $500”. And you’re like… what’s the move?

Let me break down how beat licensing works and help you figure out which option’s best for where you're at right now in your career.

What is Beat Licensing?

Beat licensing means you're buying the rights to use a beat, but you're not owning it fully (unless you buy exclusive rights). Producers can license the same beat to multiple artists unless exclusivity is sold.

Think of it like this: buying a license is like renting a house — you can use it how you want (within limits), but you don't own the land.

Types of Beat Licenses

Here’s the breakdown of my licenses:

🎧 MP3 Lease (Basic License)

  • Usually $29.95

  • Comes with MP3 file only

  • Great for freestyles, demos, or mixtapes

  • Has limits on streams, sales, and performance

✅ Good if you’re just testing songs or don’t plan a big release.

🎙️ MP3 + WAV Lease (Premium License)

  • $49.95 range

  • Includes high-quality WAV file (+ MP3)

  • More stream/download limits

  • Allows for profit music video usage

✅ Better sound quality and more room to grow — ideal for more serious independent releases.

🔊 Trackout/Stem Lease (Unlimited License)

  • $150

  • Includes WAV + individual stems (kick, snare, melody, etc.)

  • More control over mixing

  • Includes unlimited streams and performances

✅ Best if you're working with an engineer or want a professional mix/master.

🔒 Exclusive Rights

  • $300–$1000+ depends on the artist inquiring, and the goals of the project

  • You become the last person to license the beat

  • Unlimited use, no restrictions

  • Nobody else can legally use the beat from that point

✅ Go for this if you’re making an album single, label deal, or want full ownership.

It should also be noted that, you can buy one lease and contact me to upgrade it as the song begins to increase in performance. I do this at a discounted rate for the upgrade!!

So What Should You Get?

It really depends on your goals:

Pro tip: You don’t need to buy exclusives for every song. Save those for your strongest singles or when a song really starts blowing up. The likelihood that your audience will hear another persons song with the same beat are slim.

Final Thoughts

Beat licensing lets independent artists and producers both win. You can get fire production without breaking the bank, and the producer gets paid for their craft. It’s a win-win — as long as you understand the terms.

If you ever have questions about one of my licenses, feel free to use the contact form — I got you.

Stay creative. Drop heat. And read the license!!!
